Audience Member Watching this was like unearthing an ancient artefact, from the age when William Hurt and Michelle Pfeiffer ruled the earth. Your flustered Brit, not quite Hugh Grant, is played by Rupert Frazer. He meets a German translator (Meg Tilly) in Copenhagen and whisks her back to his village. Where she is a hit, albeit a little jumpy. In the first hour the greatest scare involves a toy turtle. The Horror! Now, Tilly has ancestors from every corner of the globe. Except Germany. If you dislike this film, you will go for that accent. But I say: Tilly is a brilliant actress and she absolutely nails it! (I have no idea if she does or not) And she used to be a ballerina and now she is a writer, so there!Around midpoint somebody remembers that this is supposed to be an erotic thriller. "Could you please drop your knickers then?" Actually, those turgid interludes foreshadows the very grim conclusion. The sense of community is what sets it apart. A loss of a life affects society. If remade, starring who else but Summer Glau and Rupert Friend, they would live isolated, ("My parents died in a car crash." "Yeah. Mine too.") cue bad omens and false scares. With a cameo from Annabelle. So slow down and relax. Have a cup of tea. (or Bovril. Bangers and mash? I could go on) The girl in a swing is waiting... Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It takes a while to get going with its supernatural elements, and requires a lot of attention throughout to get what's going on, as well as what Meg Tilly is saying in her supposedly German accent. Once it does it's not the worst watch. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Sort of like if Merchant and Ivory directed an erotic thriller, and I don't mean that in a good way. This whole thing is just a ball of confusion that never unravels into anything interesting. Strange that the book this is based on is from the same guy who wrote "Watership Down."
