๐ Excited to Share My Latest Learning Milestone! ๐As part of my investment banking internship, Iโve been diving deep into the world of financial modeling and teaser creation. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a complex financial model for a Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) debt arrangement. ๐For those unfamiliar, HAM is a public-private partnership (PPP) model used primarily in the infrastructure sector. The process of arranging a loan for a HAM project involves several key steps. First, the government provides 40% of the project cost as a capital grant, reducing the initial financial burden on the private sector. The remaining 60% of the project cost is financed through debt from banks and financial institutions. The private entity receives annuity payments from the government over the life of the project, structured to cover the debt servicing and provide a return on investment. The Net Present Value (NPV) of the project is then calculated by discounting these future annuity payments at an appropriate discount rate. The NPV formula considers cash inflows (annuity payments), the discount rate, the time period, and the initial investment. Additionally, a thorough risk assessment is conducted, considering factors like interest rate changes, construction delays, and operational risks. Sensitivity analysis is also performed to understand the impact of these risks on the project's NPV.This experience has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and deepen my understanding of investment banking. The intricacies of HAM and the challenge of crafting a compelling teaser have sharpened my analytical skills and provided valuable insights into the financial structuring process.Grateful for the support and guidance from my amazing mentors and colleagues who made this learning journey possible. Hereโs to more growth and new challenges ahead! ๐

Is Investment Banking for you? ๐ฐ๐กYou have to ask this question to yourself early. Weโre talking first-year-of-university type of early. Itโs not the question you should ponder on after graduation, as your chances to get in are not going to be great. Why? Because you need to win an internship. Recruiting for it starts years in advance. And if you end up not liking it, you can always switch and work in a different industry later on. Also, make sure you find yourself in a prestigious university as the chances to get a placement increase drastically.โBut what if Iโm not an undergraduate at a top university?โWell, you need to think hard about whether you want to put in the back-breaking amounts of effort required to get into IB. Weโre not trying to scare you, but itโs important to be realistic. With 10% of the effort required to get into IB, you could start a side business, start investing, learn coding, and go freelancing.Still determined to go into IB?โก First, you must REALLY want to spend a lot of time in Excel and PowerPointโก Second, you must REALLY want to advise clients on equity, debt, and M&A transactionsโก Third, you must REALLY want to get into corporate development or Private Equity as an exit strategy. If these apply to you, follow our page to find out the steps on how to get into investment banking. #CainMann #InvestmentBanking #IB

Thrilled to share that I've completed a 2-day Introductions to Investment Banking Technicals course with City Investment Training. The first day featured a deep dive into the Investment Banking careers, cracking IB interview questions and ended with an introduction to Accounting for Investment Banking. Sameer Merchant, CFA on the second day delivered an insightful practical session on Introduction to financial modelling, student interview and a brilliant Q&A session. Some of the things that stood out for me on the first day was William Dustan sharing his inspiring experience on how with discipline and resilience he secured 5 internship offers as an undergraduate, the place of building relationships by finding commonalities, the quotes by Sameer Merchant, CFA which includes: "Banking is the only job that allows you to start speaking to CEOs in your early career stages", "Don't limit your applications to the big banks and that particular role" and the various books he recommended for beginners. The training ended with a practical financial modeling session and a practical financial modeling task which was a requirement in order to access the certificate. I'm happy to have gained so much value from the training.#investmentbanking #financialmodeling
